So yesterday was the day I moved everything out of halls and into the new house I’m sharing with a couple of friends. I can’t believe how quick the time has gone and that my first year of Uni is over. It’s sad that I’ll never get to be a fresher again but I can’t wait to start living in an actual flat and taking some responsibility no matter how scary that may be.
It was a pretty manic few hours moving the remainder of my stuff out and loading it into the car amongst all the other students doing the same. I think I managed to not leave anything behind though and now have new keys to a new place (which I will not lose!) It will be exciting to make a trip to Ikea to buy essentials for our new place and just make it feel a bit more like home. I know from looking around that I may well need a chest of drawers since they only provide a wardrobe in the room and with the amount of clothes I have, I don’t think it will be enough. I also need some new cutlery due to losing most of mine at halls and would like a full length mirror for my room. We also get a double bed which I’ve never had so I’m excited about that but that does mean buying more bed covers.
Unfortunately, our place was due to be professionally cleaned so we couldn’t unpack properly yesterday. However, this means I will get to go down again sometime in August to set everything up and stay a few days maybe which will be nice. We even have a small garden which will be good for BBQs and gatherings. Most of all, it just makes me feel like I’m growing up and I can’t believe I can actually rent a place. I am determined to save money once I get back to Uni so I don’t have to worry about rent but so that I can still do a few things that I want like going out clubbing or out for food.
Luckily, I have a job back home so I will have some income but I hope to find one somewhere in Southampton so I can work term times too. I don’t want to overload on that front though since the course is actually what I’m there for and I’m determined to do even better second year. I’m looking forward to what the course brings this year which may include a trip to New York!! So all in all I’ve got a lot to look forward to. With the rest of the long summer we get ahead of me I’ve got a lot to be thankful for.
Pictures of the new flat will be up soon since I forgot to take any for some reason!
