30 Day Writing Challenge – Day 9

Hello all, I’ll try my best to keep this blog up over the next few days but I may have to lump a couple into one again, we’ll see.

DAY 9 – Post some words of wisdom that speak to you

I’d like to post two different quotes which I really like and I’ll give a little background on each.

  1. “Always remember, you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.”

My mum got me this as a plaque for my bedroom. It hangs beside my bed and I look at it every so often to remind myself of these words. I think they’re great words to live by as we often surprise ourselves with how well we cope with situations. We often underestimate our power to do things in life from giving a presentation, to passing a test to coping with hard times in life. We set ourselves up for failure only to be reminded that actually, yes we can do it and do it well.

I tend to underestimate how smart I am a lot of the time. I think oh I can’t do that, it involves figures and I’m awful at that when in fact, it’s not as complicated as it first seems and I end up picking up the task really quickly and surprising myself. Who else does that?

This quote reminds me I can cope with anything that life decides to throw at me just from simply being me and not being phased by anything.

2. “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away.”

This quote isn’t as well known as the one above but as soon as I saw this on a hang up china heart in a gift shop somewhere, I knew I had to have it. I absolutely love this quote and believe that life is what you make it. If you seek adventure and new opportunities then you are really living life but if you are just existing then is that really living?

Some of the moments that have taken my breath away were seeing the Statue of Liberty in New York, the 9/11 memorial and how emotional it felt in that moment, hearing the rush of water falling into the pools and the silence that surrounded it. Another moment was seeing the Eiffel Tower, another was skiing down a mountain in Austria for the first time and lastly, seeing the footage of the plane crashing onto the A27 in Shoreham a few years back. Some have been shocking moments, some have been amazing but it’s a quote that always makes me smile.

It also makes me think about my relationship and how falling in love can sometimes take your breath away.
